Yet Another Dictator · Privacy
Privacy policy for Dictator
Dictator for Android and iOS collects no data. Your voice and your text stay on your device.
Effective 11 October 2026 · Applies to Dictator for Android (com.captainduckay.dictator.android) and Dictator for iOS (com.captainduckay.dictator.ios), published by Nicki Skipper Otte.
What we collect
Nothing. Dictator has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking. No personal data is sent to us or to anyone else, and nothing is sold or shared.
The microphone
Dictator uses the microphone only while you are dictating, to turn your speech into text on the device with a built-in speech model (OpenAI Whisper). The recording is kept in memory only until it has been transcribed and is then discarded. It is never saved to storage and never leaves the device.
Offline by design
Speech recognition runs entirely on your phone. The Android app does not have the internet permission at all. The speech model is installed together with the app, so the apps never download it or anything else.
Your text
The Dictator keyboard types the transcribed text into the field you are using. It reads a few characters before the cursor only to get spacing and capital letters right. It keeps no history, does not log what you type or say, and never uses the clipboard. On iOS, the finished transcript is passed from the app to the keyboard on the device and deleted as soon as it has been typed.
What is stored on the device
Only your settings, such as the dictation language. Uninstalling the app removes them. Android backups of the app are turned off.
Children
Dictator collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new effective date. The apps are open source, so you can check these statements in the code: Android and iOS. Questions: captains-chest@mail.grokbot.com.
